Why Your Body Doesn’t Care

Call us today to transform your life. One of the most important statements I say during a cosmetic surgery consultation is “Your body doesn’t care what you look like or what you want. It is perfectly happy the way it is. You might not be, but it is. Also if your body could care you wouldn’t be here and I would not have a job.”

A fairly simple and factual statement, common sense really.

This statement tends to wake people up to the fact that there body is distinctly different from who they are, and their associated desires and concerns. If the body could care, then all you would have to do is discuss your concerns with it and it would take care of it for you.

The fact is our bodies will only do what their designed to do in the context it finds itself. This design is related to your genes and cellular DNA. These elements are really one big software program. If abilities are not written in the genes then no amount of hope and desire is going to change that.

To illustrate this to women, I’ll remind them that when they get pregnant the body will not care if they are nausea or vomit, they blow up like a balloon, they can’t fit into their clothes, their feet swell, or their back hurts. The body’s only job that time is to “make room for the kid and give it some milk”. After the pregnancy, their body is perfectly happy about the shape and tissue changes left behind. (All women sacrifice early on for their kids.)

Beyond that our body’s change, remodel and reshape over time. We age, hormones change, gravity, our eating habit, smoking and drinking habits, and exercise* all influence the changing bodily shapes. And still the body is perfectly happy with it all.

The bottom line is that at any given time, whether you like these changes or not, the body is perfectly happy the way it is and it doesn’t care about your concerns or desires or your body image, because it can’t. I’ll often say during a consult, “Your body is sitting there asking the questions, “Why are we having this consultation? I think I feel great and look great? What’s the problem?”

Even after putting the money, time and effort into a cosmetic procedure the body will continue its practice of getting older and responding to your eating practices, gravity and exercise routines. It always has and it always will because it can’t care.

* Exercise has the ability to make your body operate at a younger physiologic age. So I recommend at a minimum least 30 minutes of walking each day and food portion control after surgery.
